Yeah exactly! I think for these ones having them fully colored would just crowd it and muddle it anyways. You'd lose a sense of wholeness and focus would be taken away from the poses, clotheses and little goofs of a pregnant Amelia. The background does plenty for the color of Amelia's hair too :)

The Ameliaisms are really what make Amelia *Amelia*, and I'd agree about the hair color being anathema too. But at the end of it the biggest things are her misunderstandings, her kindness, her love of baking and so on. There's a lot of character to Amelia Bedelia from the books that gets overlooked sometimes.
There are also a lot of design and gestural things that are really "Amelia" like the daisies on her bonnet or the unique hatching of her outfit being fit into other clothes she could wear, stuff like that. I could really go on and on about it, but that's for some other time.
