The same thing that happened to Tumblr and the like over the past few years. Various countries are making a stink and are trying to pass anti-porn laws, with a massive push happening since last year. And to cover their asses and not get sued or lose revenue should that happen (since many of these laws would make both the web owners and users liable), Gumroad is purging everything sexual.
Deviantart, Patreon, and to a lesser extent Pixiv have already chipped away at what can be uploaded, but eventually they'll be completely gutted too at this rate. I'd advise folks to see if your country and/or state is proposing a ban and get vocal about it if they are.
